✨ Already practicing a FABM (fertility awareness-based method) and want on-going or in-depth supplementary support for your charting practice
What is the Fertility Awareness Method?
The Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a daily practice of observing, recording, and interpreting patterns of bodily signs associated with the menstrual cycle.
This method is often used as a form of natural and holistic birth control, a way to increase chances of conception, and as a feedback tool to monitor overall hormonal health and well-being.
As a method of birth control, the Symptothermal Method (STM) of Fertility Awareness has a 99.6% effectiveness rate when used correctly and, unlike hormonal contraceptives, has no side effects.

Observation of bodily signs. Bodily signs include evidence-based biomarkers like cervical mucus, basal body temperature, and optionally, cervical position.
Recording your observations. You bodily signs are recorded as data in a chart (on paper or using the Read Your Body app on your phone), a process commonly referred to as menstrual cycle charting or cycle mapping.
Interpreting patterns. By analyzing the patterns in your chart, you can determine:
your fertile days each cycle. You can then avoid pregnancy with a barrier method or abstinence, or know when your infertile days are so you can safely practice unprotected sex.
if and when you’re ovulating (or not ovulating). Ovulation is a key indicator of health! This is important for those who want to get pregnant or those looking to regain natural cycles after birth control.
what’s going on with your estrogen in the follicular phase and progesterone in the luteal phase. This can help to explain heavy or irregular cycles!
how long your luteal phase is. This is important for those who want to get pregnant or those looking to regain natural cycles after birth control.
if you have an underlying hormonal imbalance, such as hypothyroidism, PCOS, hypothalamic amenorrhea, etc.

FAM invites us to learn the intricacy and nuances of our own bodies through its participatory nature.
By engaging in the practices of FAM, we learn to observe, chart, and interpret our unique biomarkers — our body’s language — on a daily basis. Overtime, we can discern the patterns and nuances of our unique hormonal rhythms, how and why our periods manifest in the way they do, and understand the cyclic nature of our emotional bodies. We may also then take the objective data on our charts and use that to help us make an informed and empowered decision about our reproductive, sexual, and overall hormonal health. This is how FAM cultivates body literacy and more embodied and nourished menstrual cycles.

FABMs (fertility awareness-based methods) is an umbrella term that encompasses different categories of methods. Examples are Symptothermal, Symptohormonal, and Cervical Mucus-only Methods.
Sympto stands for “symptoms” and refers to the physical symptom of cervical mucus (also known as cervical fluid). Thermal refers to basal body temperature (BBT). Cervical mucus and BBT are the main bodily signs that are observed in the Symptothermal Method. Cervical position is a third bodily sign that is optional. The Symptothermal Method is what you'll be learning in the mentorship.
-
A clinical trial conducted in 2007 (based on 900 women over the course of 17,638 menstrual cycles over 20 years) has shown that the SymptoThermal method of FAM has a:
👉🏽 perfect use effectiveness rate of up to 99.6%in preventing pregnancy and a
👉🏽 perfect use failure rate of just 0.6%.
Compare that to the 0.3% perfect use failure rate* of the pill!
When used correctly, FAM can be just as effective as the pill! You can significantly decrease your failure rate by working with a certified Fertility Awareness Educator or FAM Practitioner to accurately chart your cycles.
*Contraception failure rate is the percentage of couples who experience an accidental pregnancy during one year of use. It is expressed as perfect use and typical use.

FAM can be used as a tool to increase your chances of conception because it allows you to track your physical signs of ovulation, also known as your “fertility biomarkers” — cervical mucus, basal body temperature (BBT), and optionally your cervical position.
Observing and charting these fertility biomarkers can help you assess vital aspects of your fertility such as:
💫 determining when your fertile window begins and ends, so you can time conception accurately
💫 when and if you ovulate (ovulation is needed for fertilization to happen). we can then examine possible root causes if you are not having ovulatory cycles.
💫 assessing your overall hormonal health. We can see what’s going on with your thyroid, estrogen, and progesterone hormones. Hormonal imbalances are often obstacles to fertility.
💫 deepening your hormonal and body literacy and connection to your body

A vital sign is a bodily response you can measure to see how your body is functioning. The four most commonly used vital signs are heart rate, body temperature, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
Your menstrual cycle is not simply about fertility. It is your fifth vital sign that responds to stress and illness and relays information back to you about your overall health. When you're healthy, your period will arrive smoothly, regularly, and without symptoms. And when you're unhealthy in some way, whether you have the cold/flu or have some serious underlying health condition, your cycle will tell the story. This is your “fifth vital sign” in action!

WHAT PAST MENTORSHIP CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY:
“Through our time together I came to understand my self and my cycle in a much deeper way. Christine is extremely caring, non-judgmental, and holds very nourishing space. I felt deeply heard, validated and supported. She does an amazing job of blending her expertise as an herbalist with FAM teachings. She offered custom support with herbs, supplements, nutrition, and resources to help with pain. Christine made me feel very safe and seen as a queer person, which can be super hard to come by in the world of sexual and reproductive health. I would recommend Christine to anyone, especially to those who have felt let down by other reproductive health practitioners in the past.”
Jules N.
“Christine is an affirming guide through the world of menstrual health. Tuning into my cycle and its important messages about my well-being has been such an empowering experience. I'm so grateful for the work Christine is doing in the world--whether for personal or fertility reasons, it truly is live-giving.”
Emily T.
“I have become so much more in touch with my body, my cycles, and my health. Christine not only taught me the FAM system, but also helped me examine irregularities in my cycles and brainstorm ways to best support my body as I went through this major hormonal shift. I have seen such a positive change in my health and a shift in my self-perception, as I can now understand my bodily experience and health through the lens of my cycles. Christine is not just a subject matter expert, but also holds tender space for her clients as they navigate their hormonal experience. Her kindness and empathy was integral to every session. I am so, so grateful!”

Because of its inherent participatory nature, learning FAM requires a daily routine.
Unlike the “set it and forget it” nature of birth control pills or the IUD, FAM requires intentional participation in using the method. It also requires a willingness to learn a new method and commitment to following the method guidelines to see results in your practice.
This is why learning FAM with a mentor can be so supportive. When we embark on a 1:1 mentorship, I’m here every step of the way. From clearing up confusion and overwhelm to celebrating your personal landmarks as you progress in your FAM practice, having a guide by your side can support and enrich your FAM experience better than any self-taught book or self-paced online course can. We develop a collaborative relationship where I facilitate a customized learning approach that suits your unique way of learning and support you in aligning your lifestyle habits with a sustainable FAM practice.

Unfortunately, no. Most hormonal birth control methods prevent ovulation resulting in no temperature shift. It also affects the quality and quantity of cervical mucus. This prevents us from charting your fertility biomarkers accurately.
You will need to have had your IUD removed, stopped taking the Pill, or are planning to stop hormonal birth control by the time we start our mentorship.

This is a great question to ask yourself: Does my current lifestyle and work schedule leave enough space for in-depth learning over the span of 6 months?
The 1:1 sessions are every scheduled about every 2 weeks, give or take holidays or sick days. And in-between sessions, you are responsible for taking your BBT every morning and recording it on your paper chart and app. You also observe your cervical mucus several times a day when you go to the bathroom. At the end of the day, you record your most fertile CM observation on your paper chart or app. This takes less than 5 minutes to do daily.
It is also highly recommended that you do some light reading of handouts in between sessions to prepare for the next session. This takes less than 30 minutes.
In all, integrating FAM into your lifestyle requires an intentional daily routine which this mentorship fosters. If you feel committed to a new learning process, then this mentorship is for you!
Meet Your Fertility Awareness Mentor
Hello I’m Christine, a Certified Clinical Herbalist, Holistic Nutritionist, Fertility Awareness Method Practitioner and Body Literacy Educator.
After experiencing a deeply challenging postpartum phase in 2021, I became interested in reproductive and generative health. In my quest to nourish my womb and reestablish connection to my newly transformed postpartum body, I learned how to use the Fertility Awareness Method through a mentorship with Lisa Hendrickson-Jack, a Justisse-Certified Fertility Awareness Educator, Holistic Reproductive Health Practitioner and author of the acclaimed book, The Fifth Vital Sign, where I learned that the menstrual cycle is a feedback tool that gives us valuable insights into our overall health. I also learned how to teach an adapted version of the Symptothermal Method of Fertility Awareness which I use as a diagnostic and educational tool in my practice to help women and cycling folks better understand their menstrual cycles, fertility, and hormones.
My approach is compassionate, secular, and inclusive.
I’m here to help you understand your cycle, connect with your body, and make empowered decisions about your reproductive and generative health.
It’s an honor to support you on this journey.
